Lease or Sell Your Horse to MTR

We are always on the search for new horses and ponies to join our amazing team. We offer a Free Lease or will purchase your horse.

Free Lease

In a Free Lease, MTR is responsible for all routine care costs. Owners are financially responsible only for non-routine care and will receive regular updates and take the horse back if he or she needs to be retired or develops any behavioral or soundness issues that would result in having to leave the program.

Horse Requirements

Due to the nature of what we do, we have some very specific horse requirements. Our horses need to be physically and mentally fit to enjoy their life and do well here. For most of our therapeutic lessons, horses will be on the lead line at a walk with an occasional trot. Beyond that, horses continue their education and training with expert riders through dressage and through our recreational program.

In order to be considered for the our program your horse should be:

  • Sound with no previous or current health issues that would hinder performance
  • Able to walk, trot, canter and possibly jump
  • Trained for English riding
  • Between the ages of 8 years to 18 years old
  • Up to date with all vaccinations, coggins, worming, farrier and veterinary care
  • Between 13hh and 16.2hh tall
  • Able to carry up to 200lbs
  • Easy to handle on the ground and when ridden
  • Able to get along with people and other horses
  • “Bombproof and unflappable”
  • Happy living in at night, with year-round turn out in the day

Steps for acceptance of horses:

  1. Owner submits Horse Screening Form.
  2. Owner submits photo(s) of horse with and without tack to:
  3. Owner submits video(s) of horse under saddle:
  4. Upon review of submissions, we will arrange a time to visit the horse at its home or arrange for the horse to visit our farm so we can see the horse ridden and to ride the horse ourselves.
  5. If it appears that the horse is suitable we will arrange for a 90-day trial at our farm.
  6. If successful, the horse will join the MTR family and hopefully be with us for a long time!

Thank you for considering MTR for your horse. We look forward to hearing from you.
